"I don't like billboards but it will bring revenue"

I Believe Utica Should Be Unincorporated

There. I said it.

Let's review the last couple of years...

Police Department = Fiasco
Trucking Permit to raise revenue = Over turned by the state
Billboards to generate revenue = Lawsuit and pissed off EVERYONE (Jeffersonville, Clark County, River Ridge, everyone who will every cross the bridge only to think look how beauit... Oh look a billboard.)

There are ways for communities to fund themselves. It's call taxes. If you cannot meet the basic needs of your community, you have to raise taxes to do so or maybe you shouldn't have your own local government. You should not be figuring out ways to attack specific groups or businesses outside your community to pay the bills for what you are supposed to be providing to the tax paying citizens who live there.

"Personally myself, I do not like billboards," Town Council Vice President Jimmy Carter said. "I know that it'll bring revenue to the town [through fees]." - News & Tribute
SO WHY DO IT!?! This quote pretty much sums it up everything that is wrong with Utica. Might as well rename the town Faust so the town board can sell their soul while they are at it.

EXAMPLE: Don't have enough money for roads then pass a wheel tax. Simple. Problem solved.
I know. I KNOW!  No body wants more taxes. I was just using an example.

In my opinion: If Utica cannot sustain itself (which seems to be the case), then they need to seriously revert to being an unincorporated town within Clark County, like Bethlehem, Starlight, Marysville, or Otisco. The county can provide all of the basic serves and needs the Town council is unable or unwilling to provide.

It's time to stop being "poor little Utica" and do the right thing for the people you are supposed to represent. It may not be popular but it's the right thing to do.

  1. Billboards are very nice. I like them. I like to read them and look at them. There are plenty of stupid trees . Trees are dull. You people are brainwashed.

  2. Leave Utica alone.
However, Clarksville REALLY should be unincorporated. That is a much smarter move. The county can handle the area very well. Save a bundle on politicians and dufus stuff.

  3. The tax revenue that is wasted on Clarksville is astounding. Dark ages government management. Un-incorporate Clarksville now! Wind it down and close it by January 1, 2018.

  4. I thought with time and progress Utica would change. Sadly, it's still the tired, old characters that have controlled the tiny river town for decades. I hear the town board president has financial ties to billboard property owners. And now they appoint good ole Ed "T-Bone" Meyer to the river ridge commission. The more things change , the more they stay the same.

  5. Who owns the property where the billboards will go ??

Does anyone dare say it in public ?

  6. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all of the billboards would be situated on the land owned by the Schlosser family.

  7. As rumors would have it, council president Long has a financial interest in this situation. I have no facts to back up that statement, only hearsay.

If someone else can connect those dots, please do.

  8. Why did the town board president sign the permit instead of building commissioner? Seems odd, wonder how often that happens?

  9. The building commissioner wouldn't sign it because he's also the commissioner of Jeffersonville. He knew the City of Jeff didn't want it so he refused because of the conflict.

If you talk to the town board president, HE says what happens or not in "HIS" town. So he signed it. That's because he's an arrogant prick with a God complex who thinks he's more important than he is. Oops, did I say that out loud?

    1. As noted in a story in the News and Tribune, President Long signed the permits in October of 2016.

  12. I signed it. Just because I make side money from leasing land to max doesn't make it shadey.

  13. How much have you been paid?

  14. None of your business!

  15. So let us assume that you are President Long responding.

The fact that you make side money from Max is EXACTLY why it makes it shadey. Because you have a direct financial gain from this deal is the reason you should not have signed the permit but also recuse yourself from voting on the matter. This is highly inappropriate, unethical, and potentially illegal.
